Historic Grace Episcopal Church stands at the site of one of six colonial churches in Virginia that still have active congregations. Foundation stones of the original church, constructed of wood and completed in 1748, are visible today under spreading oak trees in front of the present structure. The mountain chapel of the 1730’s began the tradition of the community-driven, country church that rings true in the Grace Church Historic Farm Tour – beyond the gates.

The Grace Church Historic Farm Tour & Country Fair is a one-day, self-driven tour of several of the most picturesque properties along Routes 231 and 22 in Albemarle County including the grounds of Grace Church transformed into a festive Country Fair.

June 9, 2018 will mark our 9th annual tour. Each year farm gates and the church grounds open to thousands of visitors traveling to Central Virginia. We welcome our many guests to a special day in the country and a peek of what lies “beyond the gates”, those rock walls and those tree lined paths leading to some of Virginia’s most respected historical farms.

Children under 12 are admitted free! Ticket prices are reasonable at $15 for advance sales and $20 the day of the event. All net proceeds feed back into local community charities.

The Grace Church Country Fair – as visitors stroll under the oak tree shaded grounds of Grace Church, they will hear local artists performing foot-tapping music while exploring local and regional craft and art vendors. Everyone will have the opportunity to watch and observe farm animals as the young 4-H’ers from Albemarle and surrounding counties will use the Grace Country Fair as a 4-H sanctioned “warm up” for demonstrating their showmanship skills with various farm animals. The church will be open for tours throughout the day. The children’s activity area will be transformed into the site of an old style English Country Fête with games, balloons, and pony rides. For the hungry, there will be food trucks, sweet treats and the popular Grace Grill will be fired up again this year.
