Many pieces in the Museum and Library illustrate life in Virginia hunt country. From archival photos of the Upperville Colt & Horse Show to fine art paintings of Goose Creek and other nearby landmarks, the NSLM features local interest artwork and literature alongside national and international sporting pieces.

The National Sporting Library & Museum is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and sharing the literature, art, and culture of equestrian, angling, and field sports.

Founded as the National Sporting Library in 1954, the institution has expanded to become a library, research facility, and art museum with over 26,000 books and works of art in the collections. NSLM shares its unique mission through art exhibitions, family programs, group tours, and more! Many of the programs, like our Open Late concert series and weekly Gallery Talks, are free and open to the public.

The Library and Museum are located in the beautiful historic village of Middleburg, Virginia. The NSLM consists of two buildings on the same campus. The Library was designed to provide facilities for book stewardship and research. Members of the public are welcome to browse the library’s thousands of volumes, enjoy the free wi-fi, and even purchase duplicate books to take home. Families and groups will also love the Museum, which features over four centuries of paintings, prints, sculptures, and more. Adults and kids alike are invited to explore the wide range of permanent artwork and special rotating exhibitions.
