The Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail is a rails to trail conversion in King George. The railroad was built in 1942 to serve the Navy Base at Dahlgren. It was abandoned in the 1960’s and the rails were removed in the early 1980’s. The property was sold by the Navy to the RF&P Railroad and then to CSX. CSX sold it to Mr. Joe L. Williams and he sold it to David Brickley, the current owner, whose goal is and always has been to preserve this unique corridor through the heart of King George for free, public, recreation. It is currently being maintained and developed by volunteers. It will be made a part of Caledon State Park in the near future. It is the site of the longest foot race in King George, a 50 Kilometer race held each August since 2008. A half-marathon is held each February since 2008. The Friends of the DRHT are a dedicated group of volunteers whose goals are to support free public recreation. The DRHT was recently made the primary route of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail through King George.
