Woodworking has nearly always been a part of Dave’s life, but over 13 years ago his passion shifted, focusing specifically on wood turning. Much like a potter spins clay on a wheel, Dave uses a lathe to turn and shape wood.

Initially self-taught, Dave has further honed his skills receiving training under woodturning all-stars, including: Liam O’Neill, David Ellsworth, Johannes Mickelson, Bob Rosand, Stuart Batty, and Jimmy Clews.

Each of his pieces is hand crafted with an eye for form and function. His functional pieces begin as a shape, a design drawn on paper. Then, as the lathe turns, wood is removed revealing the shape contained within. Alternatively, it is each piece of wood itself that inspires his folk-art “Winter’s Evergreen” that upcycle discarded Christmas trees.

Dave uses both native and exotic wood. His body of work includes bowls of all shapes and sizes, platters, vases, a variety of kitchen utensils, lidded vessels, pens, Christmas ornaments, and unique folk-art “Winter’s Evergreens”.

Dave frequently shares his love of wood-turning by giving demonstrations and teaching classes. His website contains a gallery of his work. He welcomes commissioned special requests.
