The Essex History Museum is located in the Historic District of Tappahannock, the Essex County seat, which lies on the beautiful Rappahannock River in Virginia’s Middle Peninsula. The Essex County Museum, founded in 1996, and the Essex County Historical Society joined forces in 2006 to celebrate the heritage of the town, county, river and its people. The museum’s exhibits include pre-historic through modern displays of life in Essex and the museums publications highlight the historical events which took place in and around Essex County.

The Essex History Museum’s education programs often feature historical artisan demonstrations, displays, and programs for young people and adults.
