KD Kidder has been taking photos since her dad gave her a Brownie camera for her fifth birthday. Watching her mother paint and her father take photos taught her as a young child to notice light and shadow and to anticipate the moment. These elements have been part of her vision ever since.

She met Neil Steinberg, her partner and husband at Virginia Tech where he was studying theater with lighting ,directing ,and set design which was a natural background for his transition to photography. They left school and spent several months traveling the country trying to decide what they wanted to do and where they wanted to be.

They were attracted to Historic Leesburg where they both ended up working for Leesburg Photography Center, when it closed, they decided photography was what they loved and they opened Photoworks in 1979.They have spent more than thirty eight years building a reputation for excellence in the photographic arts, and have won numerous awards and have been published around the nation. Widely known for the quality of their photography and their meticulous restoration of old photos & artwork. They love to teach photography as well at their
new school, a dream come true.

They display their work as well as other local artists and students in the historic building at the corner of King and Loudoun Streets.

Their message….. Take notice of your life each day , take time to notice the light and share that light .
