?Checkmate Farm is a historic farm located on top of a blue ridge mountain in Bluemont, Virginia. We raise heritage Karakul sheep, chickens and turkeys. Karakul fleece has been used for centuries to create Persian carpets. They are the only “fur” sheep in the world. Their fleece is a long coarse fiber that is ideal for spinning. We create natural and hand painted yarns in a wide range of stunning colors. Our yarns can be used for weaving, traditional hooking, latch and punch needle rugs. My artistry comes from color selection, use of mixed fibers and rug patterns. I am an Oxford Company Certified Rug Hooking Instructor. The Checkmate Rug School offers classes every month. I also travel to speak, teach and attend fiber events. The Checkmate Farm Store has all the supplies needed for making rugs. Patterns, yarns, punch needles, frames and rug products for sale.
