The Historic Henry County Courthouse now houses the Martinsville-Henry County Heritage Center and Museum in the portion of the building that was formerly the Henry County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. Exhibits on local and regional history change regularly in our Collector’s Gallery so there is always something new for everyone to enjoy. The former Deed Room is now home to a timeline of the history of Martinsville and Henry County featuring artifacts, photographs and articles on Native American fish weirs, the Civil War, tobacco and local industries. The Circuit Court Courtroom is open on the second floor as well as vintage clothing, antique tool and furniture history displays.

The restoration of the Historic Henry County Courthouse was completed thanks to a Save America’s Treasures grant, a Harvest Foundation grant, the County of Henry, cooperative subcontractors and dedicated volunteers. A project that was estimated to cost over 1 million dollars was accomplished for less than $200,000. The courthouse now houses the Heritage Center & Museum and provides space for events.

The courthouse is owned by the Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society thanks to the County of Henry who gave the courthouse to the society July 1, 2010. The society has for the first time a permanent office.

The courtroom is ready for guests to enjoy music, plays, movies, meetings and even weddings. The exhibit areas on the first floor are available in the evenings for rental purposes. It is a perfect place for catered dinners, receptions, meetings or classes. The grounds of the courthouse have been recently renovated thanks to the City of Martinsville and the Garden Club of Virginia and are available for open-air or tented events.
