The mission of the Museum of Chincoteague Island is to collect and preserve the items, photographs, documents, and stories that illustrate life on Chincoteague Island. We display and interpret these items to educate both visitors and locals about the island’s history and how islanders continue to pass on their heritage. Our exhibits change each season. There’s always something new to do and see at the Museum, and we strive to have exhibits for all ages.

Included in the Museum are the First Order Fresnel Lens from the Assateague Island Lighthouse, the iconic Chincoteague ponies known as Misty and Stormy, models of vessels that plied the Chincoteague waters long ago, oral histories and artifacts that tell the story of Chincoteague Island life throughout its’ long and varied existence.
