Come feel the bay on high-fire stoneware surfaces, both utilitarian items and deep relief murals. Shells, fish, environments inspired by the waters around us as we translate them to our art. Forget your world and immerse yourself in the woods, marsh, and open skies surrounding The Poddery, that we see every day and inspire our creativity.

The natural setting of Mathews County has been the design inspiration for The Poddery for over forty years. Karen and Robert Podd have been using high fire (2400 degree) stoneware clay to create functional production pieces, flat tiles, and deep relief murals for private homes and commercial sites. Their clay sculpture art appears throughout the Tidewater area. Their reproduction work can be found in the gardens of Colonial Williamsburg & Monticello. Their murals can be found at the Walt Disney Convention Center in Orlando, Florida and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science in Gloucester, Virginia. Their showrooms and gardens feature some of the largest and most diverse selection of pottery from any single studio in Virginia.
