Built on the remains of six abandoned soapstone quarries, The Quarry Gardens are a 40-acre natural area with botanical gardens of locally native plants, all within a 600-acre preserve. The gardens include seven conservation areas, more than thirty galleries of ecosystem-modeled plantings, a demonstration landscape, and exhibits on the history of soapstone mining. Visits are by appointment only; tours are offered most weekends April-November and may be reserved through the website.
